The Rosary Catholic Primary School

Celebrating Our Catholic Faith

Autumn Term

Our class Holy Prayer Tables are covered in green cloth.

Green indicates life eternal and represents ordinary time in the Church’s calendar.

 Celebrating Mass

Our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children celebrate Mass in our Parish Church at least once a term.

We celebrate Mass in our classrooms during this term too. One of our Parish Priests, Fr. Luigi or Fr Rionelle, comes to our classroom   and our parents are invited too to share in the Mass.

 Celebration of the   Word

Every Monday, we gather together to hear and reflect upon the Word of God. We consider how we can spread the Gospel   through our mission and witness to one another and our community in the name of Christ.

 Sacred Singing

At Key Stage 2, we gather together every Tuesday afternoon to celebrate and worship God through prayerful song. We are led   in our singing by our choir leader, Miss Murphy.

 Our Class Saints

Each of our classes is blessed to have a class saint. We try follow the example of our class saint and we learn about their life. We   know that we are all called to be saints and that sainthood can lie in the small, every day acts of kindness, compassion and faith   in Christ.

October: the Month   of the Rosary

October is the month of The Rosary. This is a special time of year for our school as we are named after The Rosary prayer.  We   participate in a whole school Mass on our school feast day.

We begin the month of October with a special assembly in honour of The Rosary. One of our classes also performs a class   assembly during the month of October in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary.

We pray at least one decade of the Rosary each day and focus upon a particular mystery. There are four mysteries. These are:

  •        The Sorrowful Mysteries.
  •        The Joyful Mysteries
  •        The Glorious Mysteries
  •        And The Mysteries of Light.

On our Feast Day, 7th October each year, every class has the opportunity to pray at Our Lady’s grotto.

We decorate Our Lady’s grotto with beautiful flowers which we have brought in from home.

 Class assemblies

Our class assemblies follow different themes for each class. Our assembly programme means that our children experience all   these themes as they progress through the school. Every class performs 2 assemblies per year. Parents are invited to attend our   assemblies.

 All Souls Day

During November, we have a remembrance book in which we can write the names of those we have loved and who have   gone to heaven to be with Jesus. This is an important part of our faith.

 All Saints Day

We remember the blessed saints and how they lived their lives for God. We attend a whole school Mass to celebrate the lives,   mission and example of the saints.

 Remembrance Day

We hold a special service in commemoration of all those who have died in conflict, especially those who have died as a result of   the two World Wars. We pray as a school family, meditating on their sacrifice and praying for world peace.

 Advent

During Advent, our prayer tables are covered in purple cloth. Purple is the colour of penance and preparation. We prepare   ourselves for the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ at Christmas.

 Christmas

We think about the birth of our Lord and Saviour in Bethlehem. We celebrate this Holy event for our parents and friends in EYFS,   KS1 and KS2 at the end of the term. In Key Stage 2, we perform tableaux and readings depicting the birth of Christ as written in   the scriptures. In EYFS and Key Stage 1, we perform the story of the Nativity through dramatization.

 Reconciliation

Our Year 4, 5 and 6 children participate in Reconciliation with our parents in the Church during the autumn term. This provides us   with the opportunity to reflect upon the times when we have turned away from Christ, and return to Him with full and grateful   hearts.

Spring Term

Our class Holy Prayer Tables are covered in white cloth at the beginning of the term. White represents purity, light and the glory of God.

 Celebrating Mass

Our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children celebrate Mass in our Parish Church at least once a term.

We celebrate Mass in our classrooms during this term. One of our Parish Priests, Fr. Luigi or Fr Rionelle, comes to our classroom and   our parents are invited also.

 Celebration of the   Word

 in Christ.

 Epiphany

We celebrate with a whole school Mass if the feast of the Epiphany falls within term time.

 Ash Wednesday

When Ash Wednesday falls in term time, Key Stage 2 gather for Mass in our church, Our Lady, Queen of Apostles. During this Mass,   we receive our ashes: these ashes are a sign to the world of our repentance and our desire to become closer to God by turning   our back on the wrong choices that separate us from Him.

Our infant children receive their ashes in school. Our Parish Priest, Fr. Luigi, celebrates a special Ash Wednesday liturgy with us. We   pray together and think about how we can show God that we are sorry for when we have turned away from Him, as well as think   about what we can do in Lent to bring us closer to Him.

 Lent

The prayer table is now covered in purple cloth. During this season, we prepare for Easter: all Key Stage 2 children and staff have   the opportunity for Reconciliation with our Parish Priests. This helps to bring us closer to Jesus as we reflect on how we can become   better people of witness and mission.

 Holy Week

We study the events of Holy Week and think carefully about the passion of our Lord and the events that led to His crucifixion.

Our Year 5 children perform a very moving dramatization of the Way of the Cross for parents and for our pupils from Year 2, Year 3,   Year 4 and Year 6.

 Easter

We study the joy and wonder of the Resurrection of our Lord in our RE lessons. We celebrate with a special Mass at the end of the   term.

 Class assemblies

Our class assemblies follow different themes for each class. Our assembly programme means that our children experience all these   themes as they progress through the school. Every class performs 2 assemblies per year. Parents are invited to attend our assemblies.

 Reconciliation

Years 4, 5 and 6 participate in Reconciliation with our parents in the Church during the spring term

 Stations of the   Cross

Year 3 gather together to follow the way of the Cross. We remember Jesus’ final journey to the crucifixion. This helps us to remember   Jesus’ sacrifice for us.

 Benediction

Years 4, 5 and 6 gather together for Adoration. This is a beautiful time when we sit quietly and speak to Jesus and listen to Him in our   hearts.

 May: the month   of Mary

During the month of Mary, we gather at our Grotto to pray and remember how Mary our Mother intercedes on our behalf to her   Son. We give thanks to God for our Blessed Mother with displays of her life throughout each Key Stage. We bring flowers for our Holy   Prayer Tables.

 Class assemblies

Our class assemblies follow different themes for each class. Our assembly programme means that our children experience all these   themes as they progress through the school. Every class performs 2 assemblies per year. Parents are invited to attend our assemblies.

 Ascension

We celebrate the Ascension, remembering - with awe and wonder - the glorious event when Jesus ascended into heaven to sit at   the right hand of God the Father.

 Pentecost

We remember when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and thank God for our unique gifts.

 Corpus Christi

On the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, we celebrate with a whole school Mass. Our First Holy Communion children share a   picnic with their parents in our conservation area.

Feast of St. Peter   and Paul

We celebrate whole school Mass and reflect upon the work of these two courageous and inspirational saints.

 Leavers’ Mass

We say a fond farewell to our Year 6 as they begin a new chapter on their journey
