Welcome to the Year 6 page for Classes 6A and 6B at The Rosary Catholic Primary School!
Here you will find updates about what we have been learning, links to support home learning, and access to the online platforms we use to practise and strengthen our skills. Year 6 is a special year, where children prepare for their SATs and the exciting move to secondary school. Alongside developing mastery in reading, writing, and maths, we take part in enriching projects, leadership opportunities, and memorable experiences that mark the end of our primary journey. Guided by our Catholic faith and values, we strive to leave The Rosary as confident, responsible, and compassionate individuals.
Religious Education
In Year 6, our Religious Education curriculum follows The Way, the Truth and the Life – Book 6. Each topic is designed to help children explore and understand key aspects of the Catholic faith through engaging stories, activities, and reflections.
Autumn Term
Topic 1: The Kingdom of God 🌎
Children explore what the Kingdom of God means in Scripture and in our world today. They reflect on Jesus’ teachings about justice, love, and peace, and consider how they can live out these values in their daily lives.
Topic 2: Justice ⚖️
Pupils learn about the Church’s teaching on justice and the responsibility to care for others. They explore themes of fairness, equality, and standing up for what is right, linking faith to real-life situations.
Spring Term
Topic 3: Exploring the Mass ⛪
Children study the structure and meaning of the Mass, learning about the prayers, rituals, and symbols. They reflect on the importance of participating fully in the Eucharist and how it strengthens their relationship with God and the community.
Topic 4: Jesus the Messiah ✨
This topic focuses on the identity of Jesus as the Messiah, His mission, and His teachings. Pupils consider how Jesus fulfills God’s promises and how His example guides them in their own lives.
Summer Term
Topic 5: The Transforming Spirit 🔥
Children learn about the Holy Spirit and how it works in the lives of believers. They explore the gifts and fruits of the Spirit and reflect on how the Spirit transforms hearts, actions, and communities.
Topic 6: Called to Serve 🤝
Pupils explore their call to serve others, inspired by Jesus’ example. They learn about practical ways to live out their faith through acts of kindness, service, and leadership in school, parish, and the wider community.
Through these topics, Year 6 students continue their journey of faith and discovery, deepening their understanding of the Catholic Church, Scripture, and how they can live as active members of God’s Kingdom in their local and global community.
✝️ Year 6 Religious Education Knowledge Organisers 📖
To support your child’s Religious Education learning in Year 6, we provide a Knowledge Organiser based on each topic from The Way, the Truth and the Life – Book 6. These helpful guides summarise key facts, Scripture passages, vocabulary, and important concepts linked to each unit of learning.
You can use the Knowledge Organiser at home to:
-
Talk with your child about what they are learning in RE lessons.
-
Read or watch Bible stories together that connect to the topic.
-
Discuss key vocabulary and what it means in daily life.
-
Encourage reflection and prayer about how faith can be lived out through words and actions.
-
Reinforce classroom learning through small, meaningful conversations.
By revisiting the Knowledge Organiser regularly, children develop confidence in their understanding of Scripture, deepen their relationship with God, and learn to live out Gospel values in their everyday choices and relationships.
🙏 Supporting Religious Education Learning at Home – Year 6 ✝️
To help your child explore their Religious Education learning at home, we have provided links to videos and resources that support the six topics from The Way, the Truth and the Life – Book 6. These include Bible stories, animations, and child-friendly reflections that bring each theme to life.
You can use them to:
-
Revisit key stories and teachings discussed in class.
-
Talk about the messages and values in each topic.
-
Encourage your child to reflect and pray about how they can live their faith each day.
-
Make learning fun and meaningful through age-appropriate videos, creative tasks, and discussions.
Regularly exploring these resources at home will help your child deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, strengthen their spiritual growth, and connect classroom learning to everyday life as they prepare for the next stage of their faith journey.

Online Learning Platforms
Accelerated Reader – Access Accelerated Reader here
Accelerated Reader is a programme that helps children develop their reading skills and understanding of the books they read. Once your child has completed the Read Write Inc Phonics programme, they will begin bringing home Accelerated Reader books, which are carefully levelled and colour-stickered to match their reading ability.
-
At home, your child can:
-
Read their Accelerated Reader book (or a book on myON, our online library).
-
Complete a short comprehension quiz online about the book they have read.
-
Track their progress and celebrate their achievements as they move through the levels.
These quizzes check how well your child has understood their reading and help teachers to see the progress they are making. The more they read and quiz, the more confident and fluent they will become as readers.
-
myON – Access myON here
myON is our online library, giving children access to a wide range of age-appropriate eBooks that can be read at home and in school. Each book is linked to the Accelerated Reader programme, which means children can quiz on the books they read in myON just like they do with their colour-stickered Accelerated Reader books.
Children can:
-
Choose from thousands of digital books tailored to their reading level.
-
Enjoy fiction and non-fiction texts to broaden their knowledge and interests.
-
Take Accelerated Reader quizzes after reading to check their understanding.
myON helps children develop a love of reading by giving them choice and variety, while also supporting progress in comprehension.
Times Tables Rockstars (TT Rockstars) – Access TT Rockstars here
TT Rockstars is an online maths platform designed to help children practise and master their times tables in a fun and engaging way. Through quick-fire games, challenges, and competitions, children become faster and more confident with multiplication and division facts.
Children can:
-
Log in at home to practise times tables at their own pace.
-
Play in different game modes, either individually or against friends.
-
Earn coins and rewards as they improve their speed and accuracy.
Fluency in times tables is an essential skill in maths, and TT Rockstars helps children gain the confidence they need to use them in their learning every day.
SPAG.com - Access SPAG.com here
SPAG.com is an online platform designed to help children develop their Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar (SPAG) skills in a fun and interactive way. It provides clear explanations, practice exercises, and quizzes tailored to your child’s age and ability, helping them consolidate what they learn in class.
Our pupils use SPAG.com at home to:
-
Reinforce classroom learning in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
-
Encourage independent practice with interactive exercises.
-
Track progress to see areas of strength and those that need extra support.
Regular use of SPAG.com helps Year 6 pupils build confidence, improve accuracy in writing, and prepare for the challenges of secondary school.
We encourage children to use these platforms regularly at home to build fluency and confidence in their literacy and maths skills.
Power of Reading
At the Rosary Catholic Primary School, we recognise language as a gift from God and a powerful tool for communication, reflection, and understanding. Through the study of high-quality texts, pupils are encouraged to develop empathy, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of diverse perspectives and values that reflect the Gospel message at the heart of our school. English provides opportunities for children to express their beliefs, explore moral themes, and use their voices with confidence and compassion, promoting truth, justice, and the common good. In doing so, we help pupils grow into kind, thoughtful individuals who use their God-given gifts to transform the world around them.
✨ Our Powerful Texts 📘

📚 Year 6 Power of Reading Knowledge Organisers ✏️
Our Power of Reading Knowledge Organisers are designed to help Year 6 pupils engage deeply with challenging texts and prepare for the transition to secondary school. They bring together key vocabulary, story details, grammar features, and advanced writing objectives linked to each book or unit.
You can use them at home to:
-
Preview and discuss new vocabulary to build confidence before reading.
-
Ask thoughtful questions to support deeper comprehension and critical thinking.
-
Support writing tasks by encouraging the use of ambitious words, sentence structures, and literary techniques.
-
Revisit previous units to consolidate understanding and track progress over time.
By using these organisers regularly, you can help your child read with greater understanding, write with precision and creativity, and build the skills they need for success in Year 6 and beyond.

Mathematics
The fundamental purpose of Maths is the pursuit of truth, reflecting the order and wisdom of God’s creation. The skills developed through Maths - creative, critical, and analytical thinking - enable learners to use their God-given talents to serve others. Exploring the beauty and harmony of mathematics helps learners engage with something greater than themselves, inspiring them to be forerunners, trailblazers, and inventors who contribute to the common good. Grounding learning in real-world contexts encourages responsible application of knowledge, reflecting Catholic values of stewardship and service.
Science
Through science, we recognise the world as God’s creation - a gift entrusted to us to explore and care for. Through scientific enquiry, children deepen their appreciation of the complexity and beauty of creation, learning that we are stewards of the Earth with a responsibility to use our knowledge wisely. The Plymouth Science scheme supports this by encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and respect for life, all rooted in the dignity of the human person and the call to care for our common home.
Humanities
Through Geography and History, children explore people, places, and our shared world through the lens of Catholic teaching. In Geography, pupils learn about the environment and how humans interact with it, understanding that we are stewards of God’s creation and called to care for the common good. In History, pupils reflect on past events and human decisions, considering their moral and ethical impact on society. Together, these subjects help children appreciate the gift of creation, understand their responsibility to others, and inspire them to make thoughtful, positive contributions guided by Catholic values.
